Takeback charges nothing unless we win — 10% of what we recover. Stripe's own dispute fees still apply.
No subscription, no setup fee, no minimum volume. Below is every fee involved when a customer disputes a payment, including the ones Stripe charges, so nothing turns up later that wasn't on this page.
Every fee, and who charges it
| Fee | Charged by | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Takeback recovery fee Takeback |
Takeback, to the card you add in Takeback | 10% of the amount recovered | Only when a chargeback is decided in your favour. Charged in the dispute's currency. Fees are exclusive of tax; tax is added where Takeback must collect it. |
| Lost, withdrawn or unresolved dispute Takeback |
No one | $0 | Takeback charges nothing on a dispute that isn't decided in your favour. |
| Inquiry that closes without a chargeback Takeback |
No one | $0 | No money was taken from you, so nothing was recovered. |
| Subscription, setup fee, minimum volume Takeback |
No one | $0 | There are none. |
| Stripe dispute fee Stripe |
Stripe, from your Stripe balance | US: $15 | When a cardholder opens a dispute, whether or not you use Takeback. Stripe doesn't return it, unless your Stripe contract says otherwise. |
| Stripe dispute countered fee Stripe |
Stripe, from your Stripe balance | US: $15 | When a response is filed. Takeback files a response on every dispute, so this applies to each one Takeback answers. Stripe returns it if you win in full, not on a partial win. It doesn't apply to businesses in Mexico or Japan. |
Stripe's amounts above are for US accounts. For other countries, see stripe.com/pricing. Takeback's fee terms are in section 6 of the Terms of Service: a fee below the minimum our payment processor can charge is waived, and every fee comes with an itemised invoice.
When it pays to respond, honestly
Takeback's fee only comes out of money you get back, so on its own it can't leave you worse off. Stripe's countered fee works differently: Stripe charges it when the response is filed and keeps it if the case is lost. Stripe's $15 dispute fee is charged whether or not anyone responds, so it doesn't change the comparison.
- If the dispute is won, the disputed amount comes back and Stripe returns its countered fee. Takeback keeps 10%, so you're 90% of the amount better off than if nobody had responded.
- If it's lost, the money stays with the cardholder, and you've paid Stripe's $15 countered fee on top: $15 worse off than if nobody had responded.
So responding comes out ahead when your chance of winning a dispute is better than the figure below for its size (US fees, full wins only):
| Disputed amount | Break-even win rate |
|---|---|
| $10 | about 63% |
| $20 | about 45% |
| $50 | 25% |
| $100 | about 14% |
| $250 | about 6% |
Card issuers decide every dispute, and Takeback can't tell you in advance which ones you'll win or promise any outcome. Small disputes are where filing is most likely to cost more than it brings back. If most of yours are small, ask us at support@takeback.cc before you connect.
Who Takeback isn't for
Takeback answers disputes on a Stripe account you control. If someone else owns the payment, the dispute isn't yours to answer through Stripe, and Takeback can't see it.
- Shopify Payments stores. Shopify Payments disputes are handled inside Shopify, not through a Stripe account of your own.
- Sellers using Paddle or another merchant of record. The merchant of record is the seller on the payment, so it receives and answers the chargebacks.
- Sellers on platforms such as Whop or Gumroad. The platform processes the payment and deals with disputes on its own account.
